Top Misconceptions in IslamAn Arab Religion The fastest way to prove that this is completely false is to state the fact that only about 15% to 20% of the Muslims in the world are Arabs. There are more Indian Muslims than Arab Muslims, and more Indonesian Muslims than Indian Muslims! Believing that Islam is only a religion for Arabs is a myth that was spread by the enemies of Islam early in its history. This mistaken assumption is possibly based on the fact that most of the first generation of Muslims were Arabs, the Qur'an is in Arabic and the Prophet Muhammad was an Arab.

However, both the teachings of Islam and the history of its spread show that the early Muslims made every effort to spread their message of Truth to all nations, races and peoples. Furthermore, it should be clarified that not all Arabs are Muslims and not all Muslims are Arabs. An Arab can be a Muslim, Christian, Jew, atheist - or of any other religion or ideology. Also, many countries that some people consider to be "Arab" are not "Arab" at all -- such as Turkey and Iran (Persia). The people who live in these countries speak languages other than Arabic as their native tongues and are of a different ethnic heritage than the Arabs.

It is important to realize that from the very beginning of the mission of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, his followers came from a wide spectrum of individuals -- there was Bilal, the African slave; Suhaib, the Byzantine Roman; Ibn Salam, the Jewish Rabbi; and Salman, the Persian. Since religious truth is eternal and unchanging, and mankind is one universal brotherhood, Islam teaches that Almighty God's revelations to mankind have always been consistent, clear and universal. The Truth of Islam is meant for all people regardless of race, nationality or linguistic background.

Taking a look at the Muslim World, from Nigeria to Bosnia and from Malaysia to Afghanistan is enough to prove that Islam is a Universal message for all of mankind --- not to mention the fact that significant numbers of Europeans and Americans of all races and ethnic backgrounds are coming into Islam.

Islam Abuse WomenSince the topic of women in Islam is a very detailed and controversial one, I would prefer breaking this big issue into small topics to give a better understanding about it:

Islam was Spread by the SwordMany non-Muslims, when they think about Islam, picture religious fanatics on camels with a sword in one hand and a Qur'an in the other. This myth, which was made popular in Europe during the Crusades, is totally baseless. First of all, the Holy Qur'an clearly says " Let there be no compulsion in religion".

In addition to this, Islam teaches that a person's faith must be pure and sincere, so it is certainly not something that can be forced on someone. In debunking the myth that Islam was "spread by the sword", the (non Muslim) historian De Lacy O' Leary wrote: "History makes it clear, however, that the legend of fanatical Muslims sweeping though the world and forcing Islam at the point of the sword upon conquered races is one of the most fantastically absurd myths that historians have ever accepted". (Islam at the Crossroads, London, 1923, P. 8.) .

It should also be known that Muslims ruled Spain for roughly 800 years. During this time, and up when they were finally forced out, the non-Muslims there were alive and flourishing. Additionally, Christian and Jewish minorities have survived in the Muslim lands of the Middle East for centuries. Countries such as Egypt, Morocco, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan all have Christian and / or Jewish populations.

If Islam taught that all people are supposed to be killed or forced to become Muslims, how did all of these non-Muslims survive for so long in the middle of the Islamic Empire? Additionally, if one considers the small number of Muslims who initially spread Islam from Spain and Morocco in the West India and China in the East, one would realize that they were far too few to force people to be members of religion against their will. Additionally, the great empire and civilization established by the Muslims had great staying power - its citizens were proud to be part of it.

The spread of Islam stands in contrast to the actions of the followers of Christianity, who since the time of the Emperor Constantine have made liberal use of the sword -often basing their conduct On Biblical verses. This was especially true of the colonization of South America and Africa when native peoples were systematically wiped-out or forced to convert.  It is also interesting to note that when the Mongols invaded and conquered large portions of the Islamic Empire, instead of destroying the religion, they adopted it.

This is a unique occurrence in history - the conquerors adopting the religion of the conquered! Since they were the victors, they certainly could not have been forced to become Muslims!

Ask any of the over one billion Muslims alive in the world today whether they were forced! The largest Muslim country in the world today is Indonesia - and there were never any battles fought there! So where was the sword? How could someone be forced to adhere to a spiritually rewarding and demanding religion like Islam?

Did Mohammed Author the Quran?Who authored the Quran?

Someone must have produced it!  After all, how many desert men have stood up in the history of man and given the world a book like the Quran?  The book has amazing details of past nations, prophets, and religions as well as accurate scientific information unavailable at the time.  What was the source of all this?  If we were to deny the divine origin of the Quran, we are left with only a few possibilities:

- The Prophet Muhammad authored it himself.

- He took it from someone else.  In this case, he either took it from a Jew or a Christian or one of the foreigners in Arabia.  The Meccans did not bother to accuse him of having taken it from one of them.

A brief response from God is:

“And they say, ‘Legends of the former peoples which he has written down, and they are dictated to him morning and afternoon.’  Say, [O Muhammad], ‘It has been revealed by He who knows [every] secret within the heavens and the earth.  Indeed, He is ever Forgiving and Merciful.’” (Quran 25:5-6)

It was well known to his detractors that Muhammad, who was raised among them, never learned how to read or write from the time of his birth.  They knew whom he befriended and where he had traveled; they acknowledged his integrity and honesty by calling him ‘Al-Ameen,’ the Reliable, the Trustworthy, the Honest. Only in their revulsion against his preaching did they accuse him – and then it was anything they could dream up: He was accused of being a sorcerer, a poet and even an imposter!  They could not make up their minds.  God says:

“Look how they strike for you comparisons; but they have strayed, so they cannot [find] a way.” (Quran 17:47)

Simply, God is aware of what is in the heavens and the earth, He knows the past and the present, and reveals the truth to His prophet. Could Muhammad Have Authored It?

It is impossible that Muhammad could have authored the Quran due to the following reasons:

First, several occasions presented themselves where he could have fabricated revelation.  For example, after the first revelation came, people awaited to hear more, but the Prophet did not receive anything new for months.  The Meccans began making fun of him, ‘His Lord has abandoned him!’  This continued until the 93rd chapter, Ad-Doha, was revealed.  The Prophet could have compiled something and presented it as the latest revelation to end the mockery, but he did not.  Also, at one point during his prophethood, some of the hypocrites accused his beloved wife Aisha of being unchaste.  The Prophet could have easily fabricated something to free her of blame, but he waited for many excruciating days, all spent in pain, mockery, and anguish, until revelation came from God freeing her from the accusation.

Second, there is internal evidence within the Quran that Muhammad was not its author.  Several verses criticized him, and were on occasion strongly worded.  How can an imposter prophet blame himself when it may run him into the danger of losing the respect, perhaps following, of his followers?  Here are some examples:

“O Prophet!  Why do you prohibit [yourself from] what God has made lawful for you, seeking the approval of your wives?  And God is Forgiving and Merciful.” (Quran 66:1)

“…while you concealed within yourself that which God is to disclose and you feared the people, while God has more right that you fear Him..” (Quran 33:43)

“It is not for the Prophet and those who have believed to ask forgiveness for the polytheists, even if they were relatives, after it has become clear to them that they are companions of Hellfire.” (Quran 9:113)

“But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] while he fears [God], from him you are distracted.  No!  Indeed, they [these verses] are a reminder.” (Quran 80:8-11)

If he were to hide anything, he would have hid these verses, but he recited them faithfully.

“And he [Muhammad] is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen.  And it [the Quran] is not the word of a devil, expelled [from the heavens].  So where are you going?  It is nothing but a reminder to the worlds.” (Quran 81:24-27)

The Prophet is cautioned, perhaps warned, in the following verses:

“Indeed, We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth so you may judge between the people by that which God has shown you.  And do not be an advocate for the deceitful.  And seek forgiveness of God.  Indeed, God is ever Forgiving and Merciful.  And do not argue on behalf of those who deceive themselves.  Indeed, God loves not the one who is a habitually sinful deceiver.  They conceal [their evil intentions and deeds] from the people, but they cannot conceal [them] from God, and He is with them [in His knowledge] when they spend the night in such as He does not accept of speech.  And God ever is encompassing of what they do,.  Here you are – those who argue on their behalf in [this] worldly life – but who will argue with God for them on the Day of Resurrection, or who will [then] be their representative?  And whoever does a wrong or wrongs himself but then seeks forgiveness of God will find God Forgiving and Merciful.  And whoever earns [i.e., commits] a sin only earns it against himself.  And God is ever Knowing and Wise.  But whoever earns an offense or a sin and then blames it on an innocent [person] has taken upon himself slander and manifest sin.  And if it was not for the favor of God upon you, [O Muhammad], and His mercy, a group of them would have determined to mislead you.  But they do not mislead except themselves, and they will not harm you at all.  And God has revealed to you the Book and wisdom and has taught you that which you did not know.  And ever has the favor of God upon you been great.” (Quran 4:105-113)

These verses explain a situation in which a man from the Muslim inhabitants of Medina stole a piece of armor and hid it in the property of his Jewish neighbor.  When the owners of the armor caught up with him he denied any wrongdoing, and the armor was discovered with the Jewish man.  He, however, pointed to hisMuslim neighbor, also denying his involvement in the crime.  The people from the Muslim’s tribe went to the Prophet to plead on hisbehalf, and the Prophet began to incline towards them till the above verses were revealed clearing the Jewish man of wrongdoing.  All this despite the Jew’s rejection of Muhammad’sprophethood!  The verses instructed Prophet Muhammad himself not to side with the deceitful!  The verses:

“…and do not be an advocate for the deceitful and seek forgiveness of God…and if it was not for the favor of God upon you, [O Muhammad], and His mercy, a group of them would have determined to mislead you.”

If Muhammad himself authored the Quran, thus being a lying imposter, he would have made sure that there was nothing in existence which could jeopardize the gaining of followers and supporters.  The fact that the Quran, on various occasions, reprimands the Prophet in certain issues in which he had made in incorrect judgment is in itself a proof that it was not authored by him.

Back to the listMuhammad was the Founder of IslamMuhammad (peace be upon him) was born in Mecca in the year 570. Since his father died before his birth, and his mother shortly afterwards, he was raised by his uncle from the respected tribe of Quraysh. As he grew up, he became known for his truthfulness, generosity and sincerity, so that he was sought after for his ability to arbitrate in disputes. The historians describe him as calm and meditative. Muhammad (peace be upon him) was of a deeply religious nature, and had long detested the decadence of his society. It became his habit to meditate from time to time in the Cave of Hira' near Mecca. At the age of 40, while engaged in a meditative retreat, Muhammad (peace be upon him) received his first revelation from God through the Angel Gabriel. This revelation, which continued for 23 years is known as the Quran. As soon as he began to recite the words he heard from Gabriel, and to preach the truth which God had revealed to him, he and his small group of followers suffered bitter persecution, which grew so fierce that in the year 622 God gave them the command to emigrate. This event, the Hijra 'migration', in which they left Mecca for the city of Medina, marks the beginning of the Muslim calendar. After several years, the Prophet and his followers were able to return to Mecca, where they forgave their enemies and established Islam definitively. Before the Prophet (peace be upon him) died at the age of 63, the greater part of Arabia was Muslim, and within a century of his death Islam had spread to Spain in the West and as far East as China. He died with less than 5 possessions to his name. While Muhammad (peace be upon him) was chosen to deliver the message, he is not considered the "founder" of Islam, since Quran tells us that Islam is the same divine guidance sent to all prophets before since Abraham (peace be upon him):
"Say: "Verily, my Lord hath guided me to a way that is straight,- a religion of right,- the path (trod) by Abraham the true in Faith, and he (certainly) joined not gods with Allah."[6:161]. "Say ye: "We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord: We make no difference between one and another of them: And we bow to Allah (in Islam)."[2:133].

Muslims believe all the prophets from Abraham, Jacob, Moses, Jesus etc. were all sent with divine guidance for their peoples. They were sent to their own people like Jesus said: "I was sent to the lost sheep of the children of Israel", but Muhammad (peace be upon him) was sent to all of mankind. Muhammad is the last and final messenger sent to deliver the message of Islam.Muslims revere and honor him (peace be upon him) for all he went through and his dedication, but they do not worship him. "O Prophet, verily We have sent you as a witness and a bearer of glad tidings and a warner and as one who invites unto God by His leave and as an illuminating lamp."(Quran 33:45-6)

Do Muslims Worship Mohammad?According to Islamic belief, the Prophet Muhammad was the last Messenger of God. He, like all of God's prophets and messengers - such as Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus -- was only a human being. Christians came to the mistaken assumption that Muslims worship Muhammad by formulating an incorrect analogy - they worship Jesus so they assumed Muslims worship Muhammad.

This is one of the reasons that they called Muslims by the incorrect name "Mohammedans" for so many years! Muhammad, like Jesus, never claimed divine status. He called people to worship only Almighty God, and he continually emphasized his humanity so that people would not fall into the same errors as Christians did in regards to Jesus. In order to prevent his deification, the Prophet Muhammad always said to refer to him as "the Messenger of God and His slave".

Muhammad was chosen to be God's final messenger to communicate the message not only in words but to be a living example of the message. Muslims love and respect him because he was of the highest moral character and he brought the Truth from God - which is the Pure Monotheism of Islam. Even when Islam was in its very early stages, God revealed that Muhammad "was sent as a mercy to all of mankind" - thus informing us that the message of Islam would become very widespread.

Muslims strive to follow the great example of Muhammad, peace be upon him, but they do not worship him in any way. Additionally, Islam teaches Muslims to respect all of God's prophets and messengers - but respecting and loving them does not mean worshipping them. All true Muslims realize that all worship and prayer must be directed to Almighty God alone. Suffice it to say that worshipping Muhammad - or anyone else - along with Almighty God is considered to be the worst sin in Islam. Even if a person claims to be Muslim, but they worship and pray to other than Almighty God, this cancels and nullifies their Islam. The Declaration of Faith of Islam makes it clear that Muslims are taught only to worship God. This declaration is as follows:

"There is nothing divine or worthy of being worshipped except for Almighty God, and Muhammad is the Messenger and Servant of God".

Muslims Worship a Different GodAllah is simply the Arabic word for God. Allah for Muslims is the greatest and most inclusive of the Names of God, it is an Arabic word of rich meaning, denoting the one and only God and ascribing no partners to Him. It is exactly the same word which the Jews, in Hebrew, use for God (eloh), the word which Jesus Christ used in Aramaic when he prayed to God, and the word Adam was taught to use when referring to God with. God has an identical name in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam; Allah is the same God worshiped by Muslims, Christians and Jews. Muslims believe that Allah's sovereignty is to be acknowledged in worship and in the pledge to obey His teaching and commandments, conveyed through His messengers and prophets who were sent at various times and in many places throughout history. However, it should be noted that God in Islam is One and Only. He, the Exalted, does not get tired, does not have a son nor associates nor is he considered "one of three".

Muslims don't believe in Jesus or any other prophets Muslims respect and revere Jesus (peace be upon him), and await his Second Coming. They consider him one of the greatest of God's messengers to mankind. A Muslim never refers to him simply as 'Jesus', but always adds the phrase (peace be upon him) (abbreviated as (pbuh)). He is mentioned by name 25 times in the Quran and there are two chapters entitled in the names of his mother "Mary" and his grandparents family "Al-Imran". The Quran confirms his virgin birth , and Mary is considered the purest woman in all creation. The Quran describes the Annunciation as follows:

"Behold!" the Angel said, "God has chosen you, and purified you, and chosen you above the women of all nations. O Mary, God gives you good news of a word from Him whose name shall be the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, honored in this world and the Hereafter, and one of those brought near to God. He shall speak to the people from his cradle and in maturity, and shall be of the righteous." She said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son when no man has touched me?" He said: "Even so; God creates what He will. When He decrees a thing, He says to it, "Be!" and it is"(Quran 3:42-47)

Jesus (peace be upon him) was born miraculously through the same power, which had brought Adam (pbuh) into being without a father: "Truly, the likeness of Jesus with God is as the likeness of Adam. He created him of dust, and then said to him, 'Be!' and he was." (Quran 3:59) During his prophetic mission Jesus (peace be upon him) performed many miracles. The Quran tells us that he said: " I have come to you with a sign from your Lord: I make for you out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, and breath into it and it becomes a bird by God's leave. And I heal the blind, and the lepers, and I raise the dead by God's leave." (Quran 3:49) Neither Muhammad (peace be upon him) nor Jesus (peace be upon him) came to change the basic doctrine of the belief in One God brought by earlier prophets, but to confirm and renew it. In the Quran Jesus (peace be upon him) is reported as saying that he came:"To attest the law which was before me. And to make lawful to you part of what was forbidden you; I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, so fear God and obey Me. (Qurna 3:50) The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever believes there is no god but God, alone without partner, that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His messenger, that Jesus is the servant and messenger of God, His word breathed into Mary and a spirit emanating from Him, and that Paradise and Hell are true, shall be received by God into Heaven. "(Hadith related by Bukhari).  Source Reviewed by br. Islam Doesn't Respect - Jesus in the Qur'anThe Qur'an tells us a lot of wonderful things about Jesus. As a result, believers in the Qur'an love Jesus, honor him, and believe in him. In fact, no Muslim can be a muslim unless he or she believes in Jesus, (on whom be peace). TheQur'an mentioned Jesus by name 25 times, and has a whole chapter in the name of the virgin Mary, and another chapter in the name of her family Al-Imran. There are no chapters in the name of Mohammad's family members. This shows how revered and elevated the status is of Jesus in Islam.

The Qur'an says that Jesus was born of a virgin, and he spoke while he was still a baby, that he healed the blind and the lepers by God's leave, and that he raised the dead by God's leave. What then is the significance of these miracles? First, the virgin birth. God demonstrates his power to create in every way. God created everyone we know from a man and a woman. But how about Adam, (on whom be peace)? God created him from neither a man nor a woman, and Eve from only a man, but not a woman. And, finally to complete the picture, God created Jesus from a woman, not a man. What about the other miracles? These were to show that Jesus was not acting on his own behalf, but that he was backed by God.

The Qur'an specifies that these miracles were performed by God's leave. This may be compared to the Book of Acts in the Bible, ch 2, v. 22, where it says that the miracles were done by God to show that he approved of Jesus. Also, note that Jesus himself is recorded in the Gospel of John to have said, "I can do nothing of my own authority" (5:30). The miracles, therefore, were done not by his own authority, but by God's authority. What did Jesus teach? The Qur'an tells us that Jesus came to teach the same basic message which was taught by previous prophets from God - that we must shun every false god and worship only the one true God. Jesus taught that he is the servant and messenger of that one true God, the God of Abraham. These Qur'anic teachis can be compared with the Bible (Mark 10:18; Matthew 26:39; John 14:28, 17:3, and 20:17) where Jesus teaches that the one he worshipped is the only true God.

See also Matthew 12:18; Acts 3:13, and 4:27 where we find that his disciples knew him as Servant of God. The Qur'an tells us that some of the Israelites rejected Jesus, and conspired to kill him, but Allah rescued Jesus and raised him to Himself. Allah will cause Jesus to descend again, at which time Jesus will confirm his true teachings and everyone will believe in him as he is and as the Qur'an teaches about him. Jesus is the Messiah. He is a word from Allah and a spirit from Him. He is honored in this world and in the hereafter, and he is one of those brought nearest to Allah. Jesus was a man who spoke the truth which he heard from God. This can be compared with the Gospel according to John where Jesus says to the Israelites: "You are determined to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God." (John 8:40).

Back to the listMuslims are Violent, Terrorists and/or ExtremistsIslam literally means 'submission to God' and is derived from a root word meaning 'peace'. Islam may seem exotic or even extreme in the modern world. Perhaps this is because religion doesn't dominate everyday life in the West, whereas Islam is considered a 'way of life' for Muslims and they make no division between secular and sacred in their lives.

Islam condemns the killing of innocents, and nowhere does Islam ever enjoin on such corruption. Like Christianity and judaism however, Islam permits fighting in self-defense, in defense of religion, or on the part of those who have been expelled forcibly from their homes. During such times there are strict rules of combat which include prohibitions against harming civilians and against destroying crops, trees and livestock. The Quran says:

"Fight in the cause of God against those who fight you, but do not transgress limits. God does not love transgressors." (Quran 2:190)

"Therefore if they withdraw from you and do not fight you, and (instead) send you peace, then Allah has not allowed a way for you (to fight them)" (Quran 4:90)

"If they seek peace, then seek you peace. And trust in God for He is the One that heareth and knoweth all things."(Quran 8:61)

War, therefore, is the last resort, and is subject to the rigorous conditions laid down by the sacred law. The term 'jihad' literally means 'struggle'. Muslims believe that there are two kinds of jihad. The other 'jihad' is the inner struggle of the soul which everyone wages against egotistic desires for the sake of attaining inner peace.

This misconception about Islam has been spreading in the World only recently, no doubt resulting from stereotyping. The actions of lone gunmen and suicide bombers who belong to deviated oppressive renegade groups claiming allegiance to Islam should not be taken as the source of Islam. One should go to the teachings of the prophet and read the verses that are found in the Quran to see the truth about the religion of Islam that is followed by more than a billion peaceful people Worldwide who have not been blowing up or killing anyone. Similarly speaking, Catholic IRA guerrilla setting off bombs in urban England, Serbian christian militiamen raping and killing innocent Muslim civilians, and KKK hanging black people on the foreground of a burning cross; all these acts are not, and should not, be used to stereotype entire faiths."

Polygamy in Islam - All Men in Islam Have Four Wives!!The wisdom behind permitting plural marriage:

1 – Plural marriage helps to increase the numbers of the ummah (nation, Muslim community). It is known that the numbers can only be increased through marriage, and the number of offspring gained through plural marriage will be greater than that achieved through marriage to one wife.

Wise people know that increasing the number of offspring will strengthen the ummah and increase the number of workers in it, which will raise its economic standard – if the leaders run the affairs of state well and make use of its resources in a proper manner. Ignore the claims of those who say that increasing the numbers of human beings poses a danger to the earth’s resources which are insufficient, for Allaah the Most Wise Who has prescribed plural marriage has guaranteed to provide provision for His slaves and has created on earth what is more than sufficient for them. Whatever shortfall exists is due to the injustice of administrations, governments and individuals, and due to bad management. Look at China, for example, the greatest nation on earth as far as number of inhabitants is concerned, and it is regarded as one of the strongest nations in the world, and other nations would think twice before upsetting China; it is also one of the great industrialized nations. Who would dare think of attacking China, I wonder? And why?

2 – Statistics show that the number of women is greater than the number of men; if each man were to marry just one woman, this would mean that some women would be left without a husband, which would have a harmful effect on her and on society:

The harmful effect is that she would never find a husband to take care of her interests, to give her a place to live, to spend on her, to protect her from haraam desires, and to give her children to bring her joy. This may lead to deviance and going astray, except for those on whom Allaah has mercy.

With regard to the harmful effects on society, it is well known that this woman who is left without a husband may deviate from the straight path and follow the ways of promiscuity, so she may fall into the swamp of adultery and prostitution – may Allaah keep us safe and sound – which leads to the spread of immorality and the emergence of fatal diseases such as AIDS and other contagious diseases for which there is no cure. It also leads to family breakdown and the birth of children whose identity is unknown, and who do not know who their fathers are.

Those children do not find anyone to show compassion towards them or any mature man to raise them properly. When they go out into the world and find out the truth, that they are illegitimate, that is reflected in their behaviour, and they become exposed to deviance and going astray. They may even bear grudges against society, and who knows? They may become the means of their country’s destruction, leaders of deviant gangs, as is the case in many nations in the world.

3 – Men are exposed to incidents that may end their lives, for they work in dangerous professions. They are the soldiers who fight in battle, and more men may die than women. This is one of the things that raise the percentage of husbandless women, and the only solution to this problem is plural marriage.

4 – There are some men who may have strong physical desires, for whom one wife is not enough. If the door is closed to such a man and he is told, you are not allowed more than one wife, this will cause great hardship to him, and his desire may find outlets in forbidden ways.

In addition to that, a woman menstruates each month, and when she gives birth, she bleeds for forty days (this post-partum bleeding is called nifaas in Arabic), at which time a man cannot have intercourse with his wife, because intercourse at the time of menstruation or nifaas is forbidden, and the harm that it causes has been proven medically. So plural marriage is permitted when one is able to be fair and just.

5 – Plural marriage does not exist only in the Islamic religion, rather it was known among the previous nations. Some of the Prophets were married to more than one woman. The Prophet of Allaah Sulaymaan (Solomon) had ninety wives. At the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), there were some men who became Muslims who had eight or five wives. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) told them to keep four wives and to divorce the rest.

6 – A wife may be barren, or she may not meet her husband’s needs, or he may be unable to have intercourse with her because she is sick. A husband may long to have children, which is a legitimate desire, and he may want to have a sex life within marriage, which is something permissible, and the only way is to marry another wife. It is only fair for the wife to agree to remain his wife and to allow him to marry another.

7 – A woman may be one of the man’s relatives and have no one to look after her, and she is unmarried or a widow whose husband has died, and the man may think that the best thing to do for her is to include her in his household as a wife along with his first wife, so that he will both keep her chaste and spend on her. This is better for her than leaving her alone and being content only to spend on her.

8 – There are other shar’i interests that call for plural marriages, such as strengthening the bonds between families, or strengthening the bonds between a leader and some of his people or group, and he may think that one of the ways of achieving this aim is to become related to them through marriage, even if that is through plural marriage.

One May add what Dr. Naik mentioned in his book "Replies to the most common questions asked by non-Muslims":

Broadly, Islam has five categories of Do’s and Don’ts:

(i) ‘Fard’ i.e. compulsory or obligatory
(ii) ‘Mustahab’ i.e. recommended or encouraged
(iii) ‘Mubah’ i.e. permissible or allowed
(iv) ‘Makruh’ i.e. not recommended or discouraged
(v) ‘Haraam’ i.e. prohibited or forbidden

Polygyny falls in the middle category of things that are permissible. It cannot be said that a Muslim who has two, three or four wives is a better Muslim as compared to a Muslim who has only one wife *

Polyandry Why Women can't have more than one Husband? If a man is allowed to have more than one wife, then why does Islam prohibit a
woman from having more than one husband?

Answer:

A lot of people, including some Muslims, question the logic of allowing Muslim men to have more than one spouse while denying the same ‘right’ to women. Let me first state emphatically, that the foundation of an Islamic society is justice and equity. Allah has created men and women as equal, but with different capabilities and different responsibilities. Men and women are different, physiologically and psychologically. Their roles and responsibilities are different.
Men and women are equal in Islam, but not identical. Surah Nisa’ Chapter 4 verses 22 to 24 gives the list of women with whom Muslim men can not marry. It is further mentioned in Surah Nisa’ Chapter 4 verse 24 “Also (prohibited are) women already married” [1]

The following points enumerate the reasons why polyandry is prohibited in Islam:

1. If a man has more than one wife, the parents of the children born of such marriages can easily be identified. The father as well as the mother can easily be identified. In case of a woman marrying more than one husband, only the mother of the children born of such marriages will be identified and not the father. Islam gives tremendous importance to the identification of both parents, mother and father [1].

2. Man is more polygamous by nature as compared to a woman [1].

3. Biologically, it is easier for a man to perform his duties as a husband despite having several wives. A woman, in a similar position, having several husbands, will not find it possible to perform her duties as a wife. A woman undergoes several psychological and behavioral changes due to different phases of the menstrual cycle.[1]

4. A woman who has more than one husband will have several sexual partners at the same time and has a high chance of acquiring venereal or sexually transmitted diseases which can also be transmitted back to her husband even if all of them have no extra-marital sex. This is not the case in a man having more than one wife, and none of them having extra-marital sex [1]

5. It is common sense that if a family is to come into being, not only should there be only one head but also one person should not be placed under the command of multiple heads, otherwise, great anarchy would result [2].

6. Since, in Muslim family, husbands takes the horn of leadership, if a wife has more than one husband, she would be placed under the authority of many husbands at the same time. This of course would only hasten to tear apart the fabric of a family unit. Furthermore, the lineage of the child borne by a woman having more than one husband cannot be ascertained. How would the father be ascertained? [2]

7. If we are to allow such a degradation of allowing woman to marry more than a husband at one time, she will be no more than a mere object of sexual satisfaction. What makes the matter worse is the fact that conflict and dispute over the child lineage will emerge, and this will result in a total chaos and sexual deviation [2].

Do Muslims Worship Ka'aba?Islam came to preach the worship of Allah the Only One, and the abandon of worshipping whatever else "And they have taken to themselves gods, apart from Him, that create nothing and themselves are created and possess for themselves, neither harm nor profit; neither do they possess death, nor life, nor uprising. (i.e. resurrection)." (AL-Furqan: 3 )

Allah Says : "And in no way did We send (any) Messenger even before you except that We revealed to him, (saying), "There is no god except I; so worship Me." (Al Anbiya: 25 )

Ibrahim (Peace be upon him) admonished his father about worshipping idols saying :" And as Ibrahîm (Abraham) said to his father Éazar, "Do you take to yourself idols for gods? Surely I see you and your people in evident error." (Al-Anaam : 74 ) ; " As he said to his father, "O my father, why do you worship that which neither hears nor beholds, nor avails you anything? " (Maryam : 42 )

About those idols and stones that were worshipped Allah says: "Do they have legs with which they walk, or (even) do they have hands with which they assault, or (even) do they have eyes with which they behold, or (even) do they have ears with which they hear? Say, "Invoke your associates, thereafter plot against me, (and) then do not respite me." (AL-Araf : 195 )

The Prophet (Peace be upon him) was asked : "What is the greatest sin ? " , he answered " to make peers to Allah although He created you ".

The first thing The Prophet (Peace be upon him) made after his victorious return to Makka was breaking all the idols in and around Kaaba while uttering the verses "And say, "The Truth has come and untruth has expired; surely the untruth has been certain to expire." (AL-Isra : 81 ).

After all this; how could any one assume that Muslims worship Kaaba??

Kaaba is just a Qiblah (Direction) for Muslims to their faces towards it during prayers as a form of target unification. They visit it, circumambulate around it submitting to the orders of Allah. Definitely they know its just stones that has no good and no harm in itself; but as Muslims they have to submit to Allah's orders even if they can't reason the wisdom behind that.

The Islamic Law is Valid for The Current EraYou may believe that the Islamic Law is not valid for this era, but this belief is not right, because the grounds of such belief is not valid to judge the Islamic Sharia, and here are some of such invalid grounds:

First:

The (Islamic) countries are underdeveloped in all fields of life, and this makes others believe, under the biased mass media which aims at distorting the Islamic Sharia, that if their Sharia was actually valid then they would not be underdevelopment like today; however, the truth is that such Islamic Countries do not apply the Islamic Sharia in this era; contrary, they are fighting it. The real reason behind such underdevelopment is that we are not applying the provisions of the Islamic Sharia. The corruption and injustice which govern our societies did not result from the Islamic Sharia; contrary such backwardness, underdevelopment, corruption and injustice resulted the very fact that we are not complying with the provisions of the Islamic Sharia, whether as governors or as governed people.

Second:

You may see some persons applying the Islamic Sharia actually but they misapply its provisions because they misunderstand Islam; therefore, they sometimes exaggerate or become strict. They imprison the woman, prevent her from learning, demolish traces, do not take care of their appearance and they think, by such behaviors, that they are representing the Islam. Moreover, some mass media tries to exploit such things and show the world such pictures to convince people that this is the Islam propagated by the Muslims!

Therefore, people hate Islam and believe, like you, that this is the Sharia which the Muslims invite us to apply? This is the religion which they want us to embrace? We do not need it.

These are the reasons which make people believe that the Islamic Sharia is not valid to govern, but they are invalid, because they are judging certain laws in a wrong manner. Suppose that we have a just law but certain people apply it wrongfully, then can we say that the law is wrong or the people who apply it are wrong?

How can we judge whether a law is valid or invalid? We can judge only when we have people applying such law accurately. Then, and only then, we can judge such law, whether it is valid or invalid.

I believe that judging the validity of the Islamic Sharia is just like judging the other religions. For example, if we find a Christian criminal and murderer man, can we say that: Christianity is a religion of killing and crimes? Of course no, because we should differentiate between Christianity as a religion and the Christians who apply it, some of them apply its teachings while others do not. Similarly, this applies on Islam. So, if we want to judge a certain religion, whether it is valid or not, we should not establish our judgment on the status of its followers; contrary, we should view the religion and its provisions in order to be objective in our judgments.

We, the Muslims, believe in three things, which are worthy of being mentioned herein:

Muhammad (Peace be upon him) is the last prophet, as mentioned in the Holy Quran {Muhammad is not the father of [any] one of your men, but [he is] the Messenger of Allah and last of the prophets} (Al Ahzab 40). Therefore, we believe that Islam is the last divine mission.

Muhammad (Peace be upon him) was sent for all mankind while the messengers (Peace be upon them) before him were sent to their own people only. The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said: ((Allah The Almighty has blessed me with five features which were not given to any prophet before me; ….. the prophets before me were sent to their own people only but I was sent for all mankind))

It is logical that Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) is the prophet of all mankind, because each prophet before him was knowing that a prophet will come after him; therefore, the prophets (Peace be upon them) were sent to their own people only, because the other nations will have their own prophets. Moreover, Allah The Almighty has sent, sometimes, more than one prophet at the same time, but each for a different nation, as the case of prophet Ibrahim and Lot (Peace be upon them) who were sent the same time, but each for his nation only.

Accordingly, since there is no prophet after Muhammad (Peace be upon him), it is natural then to send Muhammad (Peace be upon him) to all mankind, because no prophet after him will come to deliver the message of Allah; therefore, it is necessary to make his mission valid for all eras and places, and for all the people who will come after him.

Finally, in order to prove that the Islamic Sharia is valid to govern in all eras and places, I will set some examples of the history to verify my statements:

First: The Arab before and after Islam

It is known, historically, that the Arab have not built any prestigious culture and no one heard about them except after Islam. They have prevailed worldwide within less than forty years after the death of Prophet Muhammad – Peace be upon him – and such culture would not be achieved without applying the Islamic Sharia which was distinguished with comprehensiveness, justice, mercy, balance and gradualness, even the original people can sue the Caliph and take their right from him. Once, an Egyptian Coptic man went to the Caliph of the Muslims Omar – May Allah be pleased with him – complaining from the injustice of the son of Egypt Ruler, the Companion/ Amr Bin Al Aas (May Allah be pleased with him); hearing that, the Caliph Omar (May Allah be pleased with him) called the Ruler and his son, and authorized the Coptic man to take revenge from them both. This shining example cannot be found except in the Islamic Sharia. Therefore, Omar Bin Al Khattab (May Allah be pleased with him), said his famous statement: (We were lowest nation but Allah The Almighty has strengthened us with Islam; therefore, if we seek the power without Islam Allah will lower us).

Second: Islam has mastered The World for Six Centuries under the Islamic Sharia

Bani Omiyyah has governed from 661 A.D. to 750 A.D and their state extended from Spain in the West to China in the East, then Bani Al-Abbas governed from 750 A.D. to 1258 A.D. and for the whole of such period they were governing under the Islamic Sharia. So, what is the meaning of this? Doesn't this mean that the Islamic Sharia is strong and valid for governing and prevailing all the generations in all places. Islam has governed several nations in all fields of life, and has succeeded, under its noble mission, to unify and gather people.

Third: the Economic, Scientific and Cultural Progress under the Islamic Sharia

The Muslims did not witness, along their history, such progress in all fields of life except after they have applied the Islamic Sharia, the Law of Allah The Almighty, Who said: {And if there should come to you guidance from Me - then whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray [in the world] nor suffer [in the Hereafter]} (Taha 123).

The economic progress was clear and obvious. At the reign of Omar Bin Abdul Aziz, he was helping those who cannot marry, pay their debts, and allocate a salary for each newly born infant from the treasury of the Muslims. Once, Omar Bin Al Khattab (May Allah be pleased with him) found an old man begging people. Seeing that, he asked him: What is your problem? The man said: I am from those who should pay the tax (Jiziyah) and I am unable to pay it; therefore, I am begging people to procure such tax. Hearing that, Omar – May Allah be pleased with him – said: "By Allah The Almighty we will not be just if we exhaust your youth and waste your senility", then he exempted him from the tax and gave him a sum of money from the treasury.

Regarding the scientific field, the shining beams of Al-Hasan Bin Al-Haitham, Al-Farabi, Ibn Sina, Al-Baironi, Jaber Bin Hayyan, Al-Khawarizmi, Al-Jebreti and the others talented characters from whom the West has built their culture, appeared only during the era in which the Islamic Sharia was applied. Isn't it a proof that the Islamic Sharia is valid to lead the world and find the way out from the current distress?
